A cage with a kennel attached to it was found standing in the sun in Cope Road, Overport. There was no roof to the cage, and a white German Shepherd was standing in the blazing heat. The cage was absolutely filthy. Apparently there had been Hessian over it, but it had blown away, but it would in any case have offered little protection.
The dog was standing in its own faeces. It was not by any means a security animal. It happily jumped into the back of the SPCA van. The owner phoned later and was told that he was not getting his dog back. The dog was given food, which it munched rapidly. The owner (from Pretoria) said he had been “too busy” to feed it! The poor creature was found to be suffering from biliary, but it was possible to save her life, and she will be re-homed once she has recovered. ... more reports »
