The owner, Harrilall Rancheret of Effingham, was convicted of six charges of animal abuse, fined R5 000 and debarred from ever owning animals again. A five-year jail sentence was suspended for five years. This man’s victims were two St Bernards and three Labradors, none of whom could be saved. They were not only starving, but had holes in their bodies with maggots in the flesh. They had all been beautiful dogs once.
