From The Inspectorate

Report : MONTCLAIR CASE

Jacqui was called out to Montclair by a deeply concerned estate agent who happened to be in the area at the time. She was horrified to find an extremely emaciated female dog that was bleeding from the anus and in terrible condition. The estate agent had given her some food which she had rapidly gulped down. She was very submissive and gentle.

She obviously belonged to an adjacent house. The agent said she would go with Jacqui to look for the owner. The house was in reasonable condition, but there was no one at home. Jacqui felt sure that the dog had recently had puppies. They searched and finally found a litter of puppies lying in red sand. There was nothing there but a piece of black plastic. One puppy was dead, and the others were just lying there. They were only a few days old and were badly dehydrated. There was neither food nor water. What a travesty for such little creatures to be born into such a cruel and callous situation.

Jacqui confiscated a dry, filthy food bowl that clearly had not seen food for a considerable time. The estate agent helped Jacqui to take mother and puppies to the SPCA vehicle. Jacqui left a written warning that the owner would be charged. There was no way she could have left these desperate animals behind. At the time of writing there had been no response whatsoever from the owner. The warning was simply ignored. However, a docket has been opened, and we hope the court will punish this cruelty to the limited extent of its power as the law stands at present.
With the assistance of the estate agent, Jacqui found the woman who lives in the house is a ratepayer, so owns the property. .... more reports »
