A lady phoned in to say she could hear animals trapped in a stormwater drain somewhere on her property. The drain ran along several adjacent properties. Our inspector found that two mongooses were trapped. They were difficult to get out, but were finally released. Sadly, one was at the point of death, and the other was seriously ill and dehydrated. Neither could be saved.

Open drains are a serious problem in many areas. People are requested to see that drains are covered. We are constantly being called out to get animals out of drains, often with the willing help of the Fire Department..... more reports »
