At the very end of Chatsworth, running down to the Umlaas river, there is a plateau of shacks. There is neither electricity nor running water, yet many people there do their best to look after their dogs. Some try to keep them inside their little homes as much as they can to prevent their catching mange from other dogs, because they have no money to pay even the mobile clinic. Mange is very infectious, because mites drop off into the sand.
One patient, suffering dog in appalling condition is shown on page 22. There are many such dogs in Welbedacht. It is heartbreaking to know that there are thousands of animals out there desperately needing help.
It is quite beyond our resources to search out all such animals, but our Inspectorate does its best, and no case is ever left unattended. .... more reports »
