A pet dog that had attacked a member of the family was shot five times when its owner called a security company to come and shoot his dog. This security company has been described as being “like a vigilante group” and is reported as overriding the SAPS in the area.
It needs to be made clear that security companies – like everyone else - cannot simply take the law into their own hands and that it is unacceptable to go around shooting off rounds of bullets.
The owner declared that he was scared, but there are other ways of dealing appropriately with a situation like this. He should have phoned the SPCA.
A docket has been opened by the SPCA at the Verulam SAPS. We wait to see how this charge will be dealt with.
