Report : The worm under the tongue myth

This really bizarre old story causes dogs untold misery. When dogs are found to have worms, it is widely believed that they have a “worm under the tongue” and that this must be removed, which is crudely and painfully done by slashing under the tongue.

Jacqui came across a young puppy that had been held down and
slashed under the tongue. Its jaws had been forced open with sticks and the tongue pulled out, so that it could be sliced underneath.

This had been done some days earlier, and the puppy was recovering when Jacqui examined it, but such ignorance and stupidity are common. She explained to the perpetrators that worms are in the stomach and not under the tongue and that all that is necessary is deworming.
