Services Offered by the Durban and Coast SPCA

Kennels/Catteries : The SPCA must shelter a stray animal for 7 days before it becomes available for adoption. A “lost and found” registry is kept and owners hopefully claim their pets within this period. A joyful reunion is one of the highlights of our day! There are up to as many as 300 dogs and cats housed at one time – being either stray, donated or seized by Inspectorate. Reception staff offers advice to potential owners on the best dog for their specific requirements and environment.

Home inspections are carried out before releasing a dog. A non-refundable deposit forms part of the adoption fee for this, as it is vital to ensure that the property is properly fenced and suitable for the type of dog chosen. Adoption fees include sterilisation, vaccination, deworming, dipping, a collar and an identity disc.
