Ricky recovers ... and finds true love

When Ricky was brought to our SPCA he was suffering from rickets and struggling to move freely on severely bowed frontlegs. Part of his treatment was having his front legs encased in plaster while we built up his strength with a calcium rich diet to ensure correct bone formation.

Since exercise was an important part of his treatment, we didn’t want to leave Ricky on his own in a kennel over the weekend. Staff member, Sarah, recommended her mother come and see little Ricky . . . and the rest, as they say, is history.

Hester fell for Ricky and decided then and there to adopt the little chap. He is a bit of a handful – always on the go and with a penchant for digging up the garden – but Hester says indulgently that, “He’s a puppy, so what do you expect?” Ricky has lots of toys, enjoys going for walks with Hester’s husband, and pretty much rules the household. What more could any little dog ask for?
